Permanent molds are made from a clamped assembly made of metal or graphite, the metal is then poured into them under the pressure of a gravity head or a low-pressure feed system. In permanent-mold casting the cores are also made of metal. Although the initial cost of a permanent mold is higher than that of sand casting pattern equipment, the lower cost of casting generally results in a net savings over other casting methods. Keep in mind the more complex the shape of the casting the higher the cost of producing the mold and casting. Permanent mold casting benefits include:
